A publication’s child pages can disconnect from the parent page if they are all scheduled to publish at the same time.
Editors will need to submit their publication to the publishing team to be scheduled for publishing.
Only CMS users with Approver or Site admin permission levels can schedule publishing or archiving.
Instructions for Editors
Change the page status from Draft to Needs Review.
Leave a comment in the Change request detail with the date and time the page should be scheduled for publishing.
Instead of saving each child page as' Needs review ' you can save time by adding the number of child pages ready for publishing in the 'revision log message' of the Publication landing page.
e.g. ‘Please schedule this publication for publishing at 4.00pm on Thursday 17 May. It contains 10 child pages and 7 grandchild pages.’
The SDP publishing team will then review each page against our web content publishing checklist and publish all of the pages at once.
Instructions for Approvers and Site admins
Go to the page you need to schedule:
Click on the Scheduled updates tab.
Click the + Add Scheduled update button.
Choose either the latest revision option (this will publish the very last saved version of the page prior to the scheduled publishing time) or the specific revision number you’d like to publish.
Choose the option to Publish or Archive on the Execute transition dropdown.
Add in the date, month, year and time for when you'd like the page to be published or archived.
Select the Scheduled updates button to save.
The time format is hours, minutes, seconds, am/pm, so if you want to publish a page at 11:59pm you would enter 11:59:00PM. If you want to publish a page at midnight, enter 12:00:01AM.
To make sure all publication pages are published properly and appear as both navigation cards and in the side menu of the publication's parent page, it's important to schedule the pages to publish in the following.
Parent page
Child pages (5 minutes after the parent page scheduled publishing time)
If included, grandchild pages (5 minutes after the child page scheduled publishing time)
A 2nd publish of the parent page (5 minutes after the child or grandchild pages scheduled publishing time).
If you'd like your publication to be published at 9am, you should schedule your publishing times in advance of this, so that it has finished transitioning by 9am.
For example:
Parent page – scheduled for 8:30am
Child pages – scheduled for 8:35am
Grandchild pages – scheduled for 8:40am
Parent page 2nd publish – scheduled for 8:45am
